What are the models used to predict global warming and how do the models work? A climate model is a computer program mostly made up of mathematical equations. What these equations do is figure out how things like atmospheric temperature, air pressure, winds, water vapor, clouds, and precipitation all respond to solar heating of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere. The way it works is that it takes the temperature of the 3 grid points of the atmosphere and determines how it is affected.
