Medical & Science News Include Reports on Ethical Issues

There have been record highs of retractions of scientific articles according to the New York Times. It goes on to state that while this is partially because the ease of access allows for better catching of mistakes, it is also emphasized that the current evironment for scientific research is such that papers are published as quickly as possible, often fudging results or cutting corners. This is disturbing when even science, a disiple supposedly focused on finding the truth, will dodge the truth. This brings up a terrible ethical problem: If it's OK for our scientists and researchers to willingly lie and cut corners, what is stopping the rest of us. After all, most of our knowlege stems from research like this. While they are often incorrect, willingly giving incorect data is purposly sabataging our knowlege base.
