Admissions Criteria & Freshmen Profile

Admission to SUNY Poly is competitive. There are a number of factors that go into making an admissions decision:

  • course grades and high school GPA
  • SAT and/or ACT scores
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation
  • personal statement/resume

Our typical student has completed:

  • 4 years of English
  • 3 or more years of math and science
  • some college-level course work such as Advanced Placement (AP) or college-affiliated programs

SUNY Application (Option A)

Submit the following:

  • The SUNY Application. The fee is $50.
  • Official high school transcript(s)
  • SAT or ACT scores (College Board School Code: 0755, ACT Code: 2953)
  • SUNY Supplemental Application
  • One letter of recommendation (or form allowing for individual comments) from a school based counselor or teacher.

Common Application (Option B)

Submit the following:

  • The Common Application. The fee is $50.
  • Official high school transcript(s)
  • SAT or ACT scores (College Board School Code: 0755, ACT Code: 2953)
  • SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Supplement to the Common Application (contained within the Common Application)
  • One letter of recommendation (or form allowing for individual comments) from a school based counselor or teacher.
