SUNY Polytechnic Institute welcomes over 350 transfer students from community colleges and other four-year schools each fall. Previously earned college credits are evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Up to 76 of your lower-division credits and up to 94 credits with upper-division coursework can be applied depending on your program. 60% of transfer students receive an academic scholarship

How do I know if I'm a transfer student?

If you have earned college credit following high school graduation, you are eligible to apply for transfer admission.

What are the SUNY Poly Utica transfer requirements?

Students should earn a G.P.A. of 2.7 or higher. Students presenting a G.P.A. below a 2.7 and above a 2.0 will be considered on an individual basis. Highest consideration is given to associate degree holders (A.A., A.S.) in regards to minimum G.P.A. required. Acceptable credentials vary by academic program.

What are the SUNY Poly Albany (CNSE) transfer requirements?
(Nansocale Science and Nanoscale Engineering)

Students should earn a G.P.A of 3.5 or higher and are encouraged to have completed the following courses before transferring to CNSE:

  • Calculus based physics I & II with lab
  • Chemistry I & II with lab
  • Calculus I & II

How do I apply?

You can apply online using the SUNY Application or The Common Application. There is a $50 application fee for both. 

What credentials must be submitted to properly file a transfer application?

Applicants must submit a completed SUNY application or Common Application, the $50 processing fee (if applicable), official transcript verifying high school graduation, and official transcripts from all previously attended colleges. Transfer students with 24 credit hours or less must also submit an official high school transcript and standardized test scores. Official transcripts should be sent to:

Can the application fee be waived?

The fee for the SUNY Application is waived for:

  • Students applying directly from a two-year New York State public college (SUNY/CUNY) who will have earned an associate degree by the time of their planned entrance at SUNY Poly.
  • Applicants to the Educational Opportunity Program. Applicants found to be ineligible for the EOP Program will be billed for the application fee.

When will I know if I'm accepted for admission?

For a fall start, notification of admission begins on December 1 and continues on a rolling basis. For a spring start, notification of admission begins on October 1 and continues on a rolling basis.

How many credits can I transfer in from other colleges?

Students may transfer up to 76 lower division credits and up to 30 upper division credits, with the total not to exceed 94 credit hours. Students interested in the interdisciplinary studies program should contact the Admissions Office for maximum allowed transfer credits.

When can I expect to get a transfer credit evaluation?

Upon acceptance all transfer courses will be entered into Degree Works which is a degree audit system. Once your transfer courses are mapped to the degree you have been admitted into, Degree Works will calculate your academic standing in your program.
